Our Ethos

At Scribbles, we are deeply committed to nurturing children’s emotional intelligence. We prioritise providing a secure emotional environment that empowers children to connect with and understand their emotions. Our goal is to cultivate a culture of openness throughout the nursery, allowing children to confidently and honestly share their feelings and experiences with trusted individuals. Every child is treated with compassion and kindness, and we strive to understand their behaviour by identifying potential stressors, helping them develop self-regulation skills. We ensure all children feel included and supported. By recognising each child’s unique strengths, we focus on building confidence and fostering strong, trusting relationships between children, their keyperson, and their families.

  Personal Social Emotional Development Room

PSED.png

Our PSED Room provides a calm, nurturing environment where children can benefit from one-to-one support or participate in small, focused group sessions. This dedicated space enables us to provide personalised learning opportunities for children who may require additional support in specific areas of their development.

The room is also used by external professionals, such as Speech and Language Therapists, allowing children to access specialist support in a familiar and comfortable environment. The resources are regularly reviewed and adapted to provide targeted learning opportunities, ensuring every child receives the individual support and challenge they need to thrive.

Through our PSED Room, we are able to promote children's emotional wellbeing, communication, confidence, and personal development, while providing focused interventions that help every child reach their full potential within our inclusive and nurturing environment.

Lesley Seville (Owner)

Welcome to Scribbles, a family-run, non-corporate day nursery that feels just like home. Founded by Lesley Seville, who has dedicated nearly 40 years to the Early Years sector, we have transformed from a small village hall in 2011 with just 5 children to a vibrant full-day nursery in 2020 in the spacious Barley Barn North Weald. Our journey showcases our commitment to nurturing young minds and providing supportive environment for every child.

My Early Years journey spans nearly 40 years of experience in the field, I have observed significant transformations—from Preschools in church halls to the increasingly complex childcare centres we see today. I obtained my Level 3 qualification in 1992, in 2020 completed my Level 5 Foundation Degree and in 2025 gained a Level 4 in Early Years Neuroscience. I take pride in the extensive knowledge I've gained through practical experience and look forward to sharing my insights with you.

Our vision is to create a joyful environment where children flourish through learning and play. Our children develop curiosity, resilience and indenpendence. They approach new experiences with enthusiasm, build secure relationships with adults and peers, and show pride in their achievements.

Our mission is to provide a supportive and engaging setting that fosters the holistic development of children. We aim to encourage learning through play, where children can engage in hands-on activities that stimulate their minds, cultivate an environment that inspires joy and a  love for learning and exploration.  Support the individual growth of each child, recognising and celebrating their unique strengths and abilities. Promote social, emotional, and cognitive development through interactive and collaborative experiences, ensuring a safe and inclusive space.

By staying true to our vision and mission, we strive to create joyful learners who feel emotionally secure, valued and confident, enabling them to engage positively in their learning.

Parent Testimonials

Couldn't recommend a better experience for your children. The love they receive and the extra thought and activities that go in to the care of your children is second to none.

Both my little boys are at the nursery (different ages) and both adore and are adored by the staff. Comparing experiences from other mums in the local area who go to other nurseries, Scribbles definitely exceeds expectations
